Planned Giving
Certain assets you possess may make you a good candidate for a charitable gift plan, which can be designated to further you own personal planning goals and support charities you care about like MHA. With a well planned gift arrangement, you may be able to become a greater philanthropist than you realize while minimizing taxes.
What are the most attractive gift planning options?
Bequests » A bequest is the most common gift planning type in America today. Simply include your desire to donate in your will. This gift to charity provides an estate tax deduction and preserves lifetime flexibility.
Gift Annuities » These appealing plans have been around since about the 1840’s and provide a higher-than-market rate of return for one or two older individuals. In exchange for a gift of cash or property, MHA agrees to make fixed payments for life – part of which are tax free. There is also a tax deduction for the donor when the gift is given.
Life Insurance » Many people purchase one or multiple life insurance policies over their lifetimes to provide financial protection. Perhaps your assets have grown over time to provide the protection you or your loved ones require. A paid up life insurance policy, or a policy on which premiums are still being paid, can become an excellent charitable gift. Choose the option of making MHA the primary beneficiary or the owner of the policy.
Life Estate Reserve » MHA would accept a gift of property such as a residence or farm with the donor(s) retaining the right to use the property for his/her/their lifetimes. Donor receives a current federal income tax deduction for the reminder value of the home or property.
Retirement Plan Assets » MHA accepts partial withdrawals from or the entire amount from a tax-deferred retirement plan such as an IRA or pension plan. Giving this type of asset to charity has significant tax savings for the donors and their heirs.
Charitable Remainder Trust » A trust receives cash or property from a donor and makes payments for a life, lifetimes, or term of years and then distributes the rest to MHA.
Charitable Lead Trust » A trust receives cash or property from a donor, makes payments to charity for a specified period and, at the end of the period, distributes the trust property to a specified beneficiary, usually family.
